About Us

The Creative Dance Centre was established in 2012 and as a dance company we specialise in educational dance teaching and training for children, young people, and teachers. We are committed to delivering a range of dance programmes which are unique, inclusive, and high-quality and deliver these across EYFS, Primary, Secondary and Further Education. As a company we have been contributing to strategic dance work across the Gateshead and Cramlington Schools Sports Partnerships and North East for over 10 years.

We are extremely passionate about dance, health and wellbeing and understand the benefits and positive impact it can have on people’s lives that’s why we continually strive to offer the best dance, health, and fitness learning and education programmes.

ABOUT

Meet the Team

Cheryl graduated from The University of Northumbria after studying BA Hons in Dance: Choreography at Dance City. She developed her skills in technique, performance, choreography, and facilitation, giving her a fantastic starting point to work in the field of dance.

Cheryl went on to become a qualified Secondary School Teacher and taught dance for 10 years at Whickham Schools & Sports College. She also became the Dance Link Teacher for the Gateshead Schools Sports Partnership delivering dance across several Primary and Secondary Schools. She was appointed as Northeast Lead Dance Practitioner for the Youth Sport Trust in 2009 and co-founded the Northeast Dance Teachers Network in 2010 supported by Youth Dance England and Dance City.

In 2012 Cheryl founded the Creative Dance Centre and the company has gone from strength to strength, the company has established and worked with many partners including schools, school sports partnerships, local councils, and community organisations across the Northeast delivering a high-quality dance provision to children, young people and teachers of all ages and abilities.

 

In 2015 Cheryl successfully completed her Master’s Degree in ‘Dance Professional Practice ‘and she continues to learn and progress herself and the company. 

Cheryl believes that dance is for everyone and can add enormous value to people's lives, everyone should be given the chance to experience high quality dance.

Rachael has a BA(hons) Combined Subjects degree in Dance and Education Studies. Before starting her degree, Rachael moved to Liverpool to complete a Foundation Certificate in Dance at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) where she trained to a professional level in jazz, commercial, contemporary, ballet and musical theatre.

 

After returning from Liverpool, she began working alongside Cheryl at the Creative Dance Centre which inspired her to pursue a career in teaching. In 2018 Rachael achieved her PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training specialising in dance.

 

She has performed at a number of large venues across the North East, including professional shows at the Customs House and the Metro Radio Arena. Rachael has been working for the Creative Dance Centre for six years and really enjoys working with schools delivering many of our school programmes.

Our Delivery

We specialise in delivering high quality educational dance experiences within the national curriculum offering a bespoke range of learning and education programmes for EYFS, Primary, Secondary and Futher Education.

As a dance company we continually aim: 

·         To create an inspiring learning environment.

·         To be supportive and help people develop their self-belief and confidence in dance.

·         To create a positive dance experience for all helping to improve health and wellbeing.

·         To create fun and engaging dance sessions for all.

Our teachers are all professionally trained dance artsits and fully qualified educational dance teachers with an extensive wealth of teaching skills, knowledge and experience in delivering dance within a range of educational settings. All teachers are fully equipped with DBS, First Aid and Safeguarding certificates.

Teacher Training 

We offer bespoke teacher training, which is designed to enhance and develop teachers’ confidence, knowledge and understanding of educational dance as part of the national curriculum. CPD sessions aim to support staff in the delivery of high-quality dance lessons in line with the schools PE and Sport Premium.

Our CPD sessions allow teachers to understand how dance lessons can be structured and progressive over a block of delivery, use cross curricular links and how performance, composition and appreciation can be taught across schemes of work for all key stages.

CPD sessions can be booked for individual schools or school cluster training, and we can accommodate various numbers of staffing needs as part of a:

  • Twilight

  • Half Day

  • Full Day

  • One to One

Curriculm Dance 

We deliver regular weekly curriculum lessons in schools. We understand that every school differs in what they need to achieve as part of their dance curriculum that’s why we will work with individual schools and tailer our delivery to meet the needs of your school.

We offer curriculum delivery which can link to classroom learning or we can bring the ideas to you. We can also build and develop curriculum resources for your school helping to create sustainability for the future of your schools dance provision.

Lessons can be tailored in the following ways:

  • Linking to the national curriculum through classroom learning.

  • Developing and exploring choreography and performance, allowing children to create, perform and celebrate their achievements at the end of a lesson or block of delivery.

  • Developing children’s physical skills through different styles of dance and our health and fitness ‘Dance Blast’ lessons.

 

Curriculum lessons can be booked for a half day/full day as… 

·         One off bespoke package

·         6-week blocks (half a term)

·         12-week blocks (full term)

·         Full school year blocks

Extra-Curricular Clubs

Curriculm Dance 

Our dance clubs offer children a chance to experience different styles of dance, create and perform choreography and develop their health, fitness, and wellbeing. Our club delivery is tailored towards the needs of individual schools, children and young people and work well as an add on to our curriculum offer.

Our dance clubs help school’s work towards festivals, productions, end of term celebrations or the focus maybe more for fun and engagement. We work with mixed groups, ages and abilities and specialist groups whether this be to engage gifted and talented, SEND or challenging behaviour.

Our clubs are extremely popular delivered as a:

  • Breakfast Club

  • Lunchtime Club

  • After school Club
